Meet ALVIDA.

Say “Goodbye” to your skin concerns!

Why ALVIDA?

Creating an Ayurvedic skincare web application as my first UX project was a deeply personal endeavor that blended my professional aspirations with my South Asian heritage and personal experiences. Growing up, I was always close to my roots, and Ayurveda, a traditional system of medicine from India, was a significant part of my upbringing. It was natural for me to turn to Ayurvedic principles when I started facing persistent skin issues over five years ago. In designing this brand, I aimed to create a user experience that resonates with individuals seeking natural and holistic skincare alternatives. My personal skincare journey gave me a unique perspective on the user journey, enabling me to empathize with customers and design solutions that address their needs effectively. The name “Alvida” came to me as it simply means “Goodbye” in Hindi, and the purpose of the brand is to say “Goodbye” to, and eradicate skin issues. This project allowed me to blend my personal narrative with my professional skills, resulting in a project that is authentic, effective, and culturally resonant. It stands as a testament to the power of combining personal passion with professional expertise to create something truly meaningful.

As I was completing this project all on my own, I was able to employ my creative abilities to the fullest. This experience allowed me to explore and experiment with every aspect of the design process, from ideation and user research to visual design and implementation. With complete control over the project, I was free to innovate and push boundaries without constraints, blending my personal insights and professional skills to create a unique and effective product. The autonomy and responsibility of handling the project solo enabled me to fully immerse myself in the creative process, resulting in a final product that truly reflects my vision and passion.

PROJECT TIMELINE

Brainstorming

In designing the application for Alvida, my goal was to create an intuitive and holistic user experience, with a focus on integrating the ancient wisdom and simplicity of natural skincare with modern technology.

Bottom Line: I needed to create an application which allows users to curate their own products as everyone has different concerns and needs.

Research & Interviews

I conducted online research to understand the gaps in the skincare market, and how to effectively solve those issues using Ayurveda. I also interviewed 10 individuals of no specific group in-depth in order to have a complete understanding of their opinions, thoughts, experiences, and feelings regarding skincare needs.

Interview Quotes

  • "As someone with severe eczema and acne, I need skincare products with active ingredients which combat acne but are also gentle enough at the same time to not cause an eczema flare. "

    Interviewee 1

  • "Managing rosacea means I need gentle skincare that calms redness and inflammation, avoiding any harsh ingredients that could aggravate my condition."

    Interviewee 2

  • "I have dry, flaky skin that’s prone to irritation, so I require products that offer deep moisture and nourishment without leading to clogged pores or breakouts."

User Personas

User Flow Diagram

I created a user flow diagram that outlines the step-by-step journey for both new and returning customers on ALVIDA’s website, starting with a personalized quiz or direct access to the shopping cart, and progressing through product selection, checkout, and order confirmation.
